Her study abroad experience led Annya to intern with White Hawk Ecovillage last summer to research what motivates people to live in sustainable living communities. This project became research for her final senior thesis, which allowed her to conduct face-to-face interviews with community members and gain field experience collecting data through participant observation. This experience helped her cultivate an interest in environmental justice and working with communities affected the most by industrial pollution and adverse health effects. Annya was passionate about her methodological approach at White Hawk Ecovillage and hopes to continue to investigate similar types of qualitative work at Life Paths Appalachian Research Center. In her down time, you can find Annya hanging out with her bull terrier mix, hosting dinner parties with friends, or daydreaming about where to road-trip next.
